Hi all,
Let's have a field trip to River Lane, Utah Co., tomorrow, Wednesday
(9/3) at 8:30 am. Cheryl Petersen promised to meet everyone there at the
beginning where the cattle guard used to be. (Mysteriously there is now
the beginnings of a dugout mogul in its place since last week. Bring your
shovels - we need to fill it in before it is impassable.)
I had a few days off from work and have been checking River Lane for
migrants since Thursday with no luck. The big storm yesterday morning
and cold windy weather spoiled the day. This morning (Tu) was a different
story. Between 9:00 am and 11:30 am I saw the following:
Warblers: Yellow, yellow rumped, Wilsons, Townsends, Nashville, orange
crowned. Cheryl saw a black-throated gray.
others: Western tanager (many), Bullocks orioles, gray catbird, blue-gray
knatcatchers, warbling vireos, black-headed grosbeak, American
goldfinches everywhere, lazuli bunting, several western wood peewees, a
couple of empids (you get to ID them). A sharpie came in chasing a night
hawk. Many night hawks still flying in the sky when I left.
Seen last week: House wren, blue grosbeak.
Sorry, I can't come tomorrow. Will be shackled to my computer at work.
Sob...
Have fun ~ Tuula
Ps. To River Lane: - take exit 240 (Main Springville) and proceed west on
SR77. Just before the bridge over Spanish Fork River there is a green
street sign that appropriately says River Lane. Go north through the
fields, past a couple of farm houses and then follow the dirt road west.
It continues for about a mile and a half next to the the river to Utah
Lake. The best places seem to be by the late cattle guard and the more
open area where there are Russian Olive trees across the river.
