Looking for shorebirds in St. George was not my favorite thing until I read Rick Fridells report and decided to check out the Springs pond.
Low water levels have left a nice mud flat on the east end of the pond and to my delight there were several shore birds in easy viewing range. I checked the pond about 7:30 this morning and found five. This afternoon some of the earlier ones had flown and two new ones were in (and were sharing the pond with three young boys who were getting all the use they could out of the mud flats). Following is the shorebird list.
Black-necked Stilts
Kildeers
Semipalmated Sandpiper
Long-billed Dowitchers
Spotted Sandpipers
Least Sandpipers
Wilson's Phalarope
Makes me want to postpone my trip home and check it out again.
