[ucbnet] Steller's Jay in large flock

Greetings to one and all,

This morning, Friday, while working in my back yard in the mouth of
Santaquin Canyon at 9:42 AM, I noticed a couple of Steller's Jays land in
the elm trees behind my property which is also an old gravel pit owned
by the City, I'm told. Then the parade began as additional jays
coming in pairs and 3's or 4's over the next 3 - 4 minutes landed briefly in
the same trees then flew on toward the neighbors across the street
where several tall, 70 FT cottonwood trees offer plenty of cover right
now. I lost track of the birds after 27 of them had passed by. There was
very little sound from the jays, but I'm not hearing very well any
more. Their behavior of moving along reminded me of Pinion Jays from
Arizona. At any rate, I enjoyed quite a show while it lasted. My watering
station was dry at the time and I wondered if the birds had come in
for a drink, but there is plenty of open water in our general
 neighborhood from the recent rains.
