Last Sunday (Sep 30) Luke Hau, Steph Alvarenga and I
were also down at the airport dike looking at the
shorebirds off the SE corner. There were many
shorebirds there as per other reports. We saw (but did
not count as we did not have a scope) many Killdeer,
Long-billed Dowitchers, a handful of Am Avocets, both
yellowlegs, and some UnId'd Peeps. The viewing
conditions here are excellent in the late afternoon
with the sun to the west and the birds in the open mud
to the east. We then headed over to Utah Lake State
Park where we had at least 2 and up to 3 COMMON
NIGHTHAWKS flying around the parking lot.

Early in the day we were up near the hawkwatch knoll
(Squaw Peak area) with Eric Huish and Ned Bixler,
where we had a decent flight of accipiters (mostly
Cooper's Hawks) and a small # of a few other species
(Red-tails, Golden Eagles, etc.). Today (Oct 7th)
appeared to have excellent potential for a hawk flight
did anybody happen to go looking?

This afternoon I had a Townsend's Solitaire flying
over 300 N at 400 E in Provo (not far south of BYU
campus).

Matt
