Hi all,
Yesterday afternoon (March 18th) Danny Nielsen, Peter
Nielsen, Steph Alvarenga and I hiked to the end of
Skipper Bay Trail.
The flooded fields to the east of the trail were full
of waterfowl and many frogs were calling in the wet
areas on either side. I think they were Chorus Frogs
but am not really familiar with the amphibians of this
area. Any comments would be helpful.
As for bird life -
Sandhill Crane - 4 birds flew from a nearby field and
3 landed in the field close to the trail.
Waterfowl in the field:
Canada Geese, Northern Pintail, many Northern
Shoveler, Gadwall, many American Wigeon, Mallard,
Green-winged Teal and Common Goldeneye.
Also present, among others, were: 4 Killdeer, 2
Great-blue Herons, American Coots, 1 Sharp-shinned
Hawk, Red-winged Blackbirds, 1 Yellow-headed
Blackbird, 1 Western Meadowlark, and Horned Lark.
Cheers,
Matt Mills
