Salem

Tuula, Leena and I saw a juvenile GOSHAWK near the small pond, now
surrounded by houses, north of the main Salem Pond. (200 North Main, I
think). It was in the trees on the east side of the pond.

Here's a photo:

We saw 44 species before noon as we made a loop through the Provo and
Evergreen Cemeteries (which were completely dead, as the joke goes),
then to the LEWIS'S WOODPECKER place east of Salem (we got within 20
feet of the bird before it flew), and then to the main Salem pond were
we saw CANVASBACKS and a RUDDY DUCK, then to the little pond in the
north were we saw the GOSHAWK, then to "upper" River Lane were we saw
maybe four EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES (upstream less than a mile from the
regular place) and then to Wal Mart for the GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES, then
on to "Night-Heron Island" at East Bay where instead of a night-heron
we saw a BALD EAGLE on the main high perch. A very nice morning of
birding.

Good birding and see you on Wednesday at the Golden Corral (6:30),
Milt
