 Wayne:

Waterfowl season opens soon, October 7th. You might tell your students that they could go to a local Waterfowl Management Area near the school (Utah Lake) and ask hunters returning from the field if they would consider donating a bird to this class. Many hunters will likely be glad to do so, especially with the mercury advisories that have been issued. I would recommend going to these areas about mid-day when the morning shoot is over and hunters return to their vehicles.

A easy way to ask would be to set up an easel with a sign (tied to it) explaining the request. You might ask the local Division of Wildlife Resources office (Springville) where they might find hunters who could be solicited.

 Good luck.

  Hi all,
If you find a dead bird in decent condition, and of course not
producing terrible odors, we could use them here at Utah Valley State
College for the teaching collection. We do have a salvage permit. If
you find something to donate please write down the data: where and when
found and your name. Then wrap the bird in a layer of newspaper and
place in a plastic bag with the data. Place in the freezer and then
contact me at (801) 863-8607. We will greatly appreciate your
donations. We have students in our current ornithology class who have a
growing interest in birds and they will benefit much from your
donations.
Sincerely,
Wayne
