Hi Eric, Thanks for the e-mail on the airport dike. I drove out there this morning and it was wonderful! Very "birdy."
Just wanted to mention that Wade Miller reported seeing the Hook-billed Kite again when he walked in the meadows above his Dry Creek home in Highland. He wasn't as close to the bird this time, but said it has a very distinctive call so he knew it was the same bird he had long, close looks at a couple of weeks ago.

Subject: [ucbnet] Provo Airport Dike - Black Tern, Soras, Blue Grosbeak
I went birding around the Provo Airport Dike this morning. Here are some
sightings I thought people may be interested in - I saw a Black Tern flying
overhead between the South extension and the Southwest corner. There were
many Soras Calling and walking around out in the open in an open area in the
marsh between the new tower and the southwest corner (on the lake side of
the dike). I also saw a singing male Blue Grosbeak on the airport fence
just before you enter the wooded area by the state park. This week and last
the Common Yellowthroats have been singing from in the moat along the west
side of the airport and today I got to see one Singing while he slowly
fluttered about up above the cattails. There were Brewers Sparrows and a
Sage Thrasher along the dike in the area between the new tower and the
southwest corner. There were many Eastern Kingbirds, a few Western
Kingbirds and one Says Phoebe. Plus Marsh Wrens and swallows were
everywhere. The Dike is very birdy this time of year.
