[TopOfUtah] Green Heron-Cache Co., 5/25/09

I found a GREEN HERON this morning at the Mendon R. bridge over the  Logan
River, in Cache Co.  I was able to digiscope a few shots and will be sending
a couple to the Utah Birds website (sorry, I don't have a photo-hosting page
of my own). The bird did not linger; after <10 minutes it took off and
headed north, downstream, and out of sight.

The two male BOBOLINKS are still present at the same location, in the field
on the north side of the road.  You can see them with binoculars, and you
can hear them, but a scope would be helpful.  I did not hear or see any
Willow Flycatchers-perhaps it is a few days too early.

Next I visited Pacific Corps access, also on Mendon Rd.  Nothing unusual
there, but I did have a distant EASTERN KINGBIRD in the fields on the north
side of the road, about a half-mile or so west of the parking lot, along
with my first-of-the-year MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER.  I also watched a food
exchange between a male and female NORTHERN HARRIER.

My final stop was the Logan Zoo, where I found the expected COMMON GRACKLES
in the Lombardy Poplars along 700S.  Not much else of interest at the zoo
except for WESTERN TANAGERS, which pretty much seem to be everywhere both in
Logan and in the valley as they stage to continue north and/or up into the
mountains.
