After reading Tim's post of 500 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, I almost hopped in
the car and drove to Summit Park, but I figured they would be gone by the
time I got there. Well, 12 is certainly not 500, but I was very surprised
and pleased to see a flock of 12 or so WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS flyover my
yard on The Island in Logan this evening, calling the whole way
"it-it-it-it". Also in the yard were WESTERN TANAGERS, WARBLING VIREOS, and
a late AUDUBON'S WARBLER, as well as BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE fledglings and now
a pair of EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES, perhaps prospecting for a nest site.
Checklist below. Good birding, Craig.
