This afternoon I birded The Island, Canal Trail, and First Dam, all in Logan
(Cache Co.). Among the many fun birds were two separate Yellow-rumped
Warblers, a 1st-winter Northern Shrike at 1st Dam, as well as a Merlin, and
a dark-morph Harlan's (Red-tailed) Hawk, both flyovers on the Canal Trail.
Oh, and did I mention that there were American Robins EVERYWHERE? My count
of 215 is conservative. They were particularly numerous on the Canal Trail,
feeding on berries, feeding on the snow-free south-facing hillside and
bathing in the canal. Several times I had 25+ robins in a single
field-of-view through my binoculars. No luck finding a Varied Thrush though.
