While enjoying lunch on campus at Utah State University in the 80 degree
weather today, White-winged Crossbills were not the last bird I'd expect
to see, but also far from the first. I thought they'd have moved on by
now, and it seems that reports of them from further south have slowed or
ended. (Perhaps people have just decided they're common enough this
year to not bother reporting, but I haven't seen any show up in Ebird
for a while either.) At least two WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were on the
USU campus this afternoon near the fountain by the Taggart Student
Center. One bird was heard in the pines and another was seen drinking
water from the fountain. The invasion continues.
