Not to step on anyone's toes here, but in the interest of rapid
dissemination of information, Jason, Ann, and I were able to relocate
the dark-backed gull at Sue's Ponds that Jason had posted photos of
earlier today, and were able to confirm that it was indeed a LESSER
BLACK-BACKED GULL as Tim and Cliff suggested after reviewing the photo.
We were able to make out the pale iris and yellow legs at relatively
close range, among other field marks. Jason has good photos that he's
probably uploading and preparing as I type this, unless his fingers are
still frozen to the camera. There were also three BONAPARTE'S GULLS
there, making a total of six gull species there today (with the
California, Ring-billed, and Herring). We were not able to relocate the
possible Iceland Gull this afternoon, but it was missing yesterday
afternoon and present this morning, so it might turn up again tomorrow
morning. One DUNLIN and one AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER were also still
present this afternoon. That place is hopping with good birds! Great
finds, Jason, and thanks for getting the word out!
