Thanks to Ryan’s tip about the Red-breasted Merganser I went to the “swallow bridge” in Benson. Not only were the Red-breasted Mergansers present, but there were also Common Mergansers and over 37 Double-crested Cormorants (they took flight before I could count them all). In a field just south of the bridge I saw my first of year Mountain Bluebird. At the ox-bow there were Cinnamon Teals, Green-winged Teal, Greater Yellowlegs, and lots of American Avocets. I am still looking for my first of year Black-necked Stilt. In Benson, near the LDS church, I saw the California Quail that were reported yesterday. Seeing a Mountain Bluebird makes today a “perfect” day.
Thanks.
Buck Russell
