[TopOfUtah] Questons on breeding plumage

   I noticed the House finches were looking much redder and Am Goldfinches
much yellower and both more territorial than I've seen them before. Is it my
imagination or are the males practicing their mating postures?  I've noticed
some have brighter colors than others already and these seem to be the more
aggressive birds.  I've been wondering - will the ones with brighter colors,
earlier in the year who also display aggressive behavior be more successful
in winning a lovely female than some that are still drab and easily driven
off?
