Today at 20-20 Ponds: There were 5 swans with black bills (on NYD outing
some said they were Tundras and others said they were Trumpeters. Since the
swans weren't there, no one could say for sure, so until this can be cleared
up, I will refer to them as: Cygnus niger-rostrum conniae) and a Mute swan
-- total of 6.
Other ducks were all pretty much the same crowd as on NYD except the ones
asterisked:
*hooded merganser
pintail duck
canvas back
northern shoveler
buffle heads
*barrow's goldeneye
cinnamon teal
green wing teal
gadwal
mallard
Now for the piece d'resistance (drum roll)
the NEW BIRD FOR ME IS ...
Northern shrike.
He appeared in my apple tree today and seems to be lingering. With this guy
around, I guess the feeder birds could become the other definition of feeder
birds. :-[ I'm wondering if there is anyway to train the shrikes to select
only the house sparrows? ;-]
