Last night, Bill and I decided to go for a drive to watch the sunset. We
ended up in Howell (Box Elder Co) not far from Thiokol. We saw 3
SHORT-EARED OWLS at sunset. Later that evening, we saw some other kind of
night bird, but couldn't get an ID on it. I looked like some kind of
nightjar. It didn't have white bars on the under side of the wings. I have
no idea what it was.
Today, I saw what I believe was a RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER in a pine tree in
College Ward. I studied this bird for at least 1 hour and I feel pretty
confident that's what it is. If anyone wants to know where to look for it,
it's at the LDS church on 2200 South in College Ward. Go to 20-20 Ponds and
head due west on 2200 South and the church is on the left side of the road
at the next intersection. He was in the pines on the east side of the
church.
Other birds ...
American avocet --- approx. 25 in a pool off I-15 just north of Brigham
City
Great Blue Heron -- 1, same place
White Pelicans -- 7, same place
Sharp-shinned hawk -- 1, in my back yard (3200 South in Nibley)
Mt Chickadee -- 2, with the sapsucker
Northern Flicker -- 4, College Ward
Happy Bird day!
