This morning I went birding with Kim Sullivan's Ornithology class. We
started at first dam where we saw Common and Barrow's Goldeneye, American
Coots, Ring-billed Gulls, California Gulls and a smattering of domestic
geese and ducks. We also saw American Robins, House Sparrows, and a Brewer's
Blackbird.
At the East Overlook of Hyrum Reservoir we had more variety to watch as we
saw a large flock of Double-crested Cormorants, some Common Loons, and a
pair of Tundra Swans. Here is a list of the other birds on the water:
Clark's Grebes
Western Grebes
Ring-necked Duck
(Lesser?) Scaup
Redhead
Canvasback
Common Merganser
Red-breasted Merganser
Northern Shoveler
Ruddy Duck
American Coot
(Barrow's?) Goldeneye (not sure because I spotted them in flight)
On land:
Elk
Mule Deer
We also heard American Robins, Western Meadowlark, Song Sparrow and Sandhill
Cranes. It wasn't as cold as Tuesday and was a pretty good morning for
birding.
