Well, birders of Utah, I got a great Christmas gift... 5 bald eagles
perched in some trees. Christmas Day, on our way to our son's house in
Ogden, we saw 4 immatures and 1 adult male bald eagles perched in the trees
overlooking Pelican Point at Willard Bay. We used to see several of them
perched in the trees at that spot all the time in past years, but the last
couple of years I have rarely seen them. I was just commenting about this
to Bill when, no sooner were the words out of my mouth, I saw two extra
large birds perched in the trees looking at the bay. Bill pulled over and
came to a screeching halt (had to back up some), I whipped out the binocs
(which are always kept in the car) and shure nuff, there were 2 were
immature bald eagles. After a good look, we started down the road again,
and about 5 seconds later had to repeat the screeching halt as there were 2
more immatures and one adult male in all his bald glory.
Santa, thanks for the eagles!!
Before that, I took a drive up Logan Canyon just to see the new snow. At
Spring Hollow there were about 14 lovely Common Goldeneyes swimming around
in the pond. There may have been a Couple of Barrows x Common hybrids, but
I'm not that expert at distinguishing the difference yet. Having never paid
much attention to ducks before, I'm discovering them and finding out what a
lot a great and beautiful birds have webbed feet, wide bills and go quack.
Happy New Year!
