**** Three attached photos didn't make it through the system. The "TopOFUtah" listserv doesn't support attachments larger than 400 Kb -- attachments are one of the ways viruses, etc are spread, so we have to be careful about that. Also attachments can cause big problems with dial-up email systems, and thus it's probably a good idea to limit the size of messages. Sorry about that, ~ the webmaster

Here's the message from Nancy Williams minus the attachments:

Bryan and I had to leave summer back in Kauai last night, reluctantly schlepping ourselves home on the redeye and waking up to winter in Utah again. We're trying to get excited about this, but memories of aloha, seeing lifetime birds, beach sunsets and quality testing all the rainbow shave ice with macadamia nut ice cream on the island are singing us lullabyes.

We brought home a few pictures of the Lifetimers and I've attached them. We spent a wonderful day poking around at the Kilauea Lighthouse and National Bird Refuge on the northeast shore of Kauai, where we got to watch Laysan Albatrosses nesting & courting. That was a treat! They had only arrived the week before to spend the winter there. We also saw a cliff full of Red-footed Boobies, several Magnificent Frigate Birds and dozens of Nenes.

Back at the hotel we were in a room with a balcony that overlooked a beautiful water garden where every day a Black-crowned Night Heron came to fish. Cattle Egrets are as common as starlings and walk along all the roadsides. There are beautiful Red-crested Cardinals, small Zebra Doves and millions of Myna birds. Here's a taste of some of what we saw.

Nancy
