Utah Birders--Thursday, 4/30, I had Lytle Ranch Preserve all to myself from
about 6am to noon. I probably missed stuff due to unfamiliarity, but here
are the highlights.
LYTLE RANCH
- C Poorwill & a distant Lesser Nighthawk calling before dawn
- C Black Hawk
- Solitary Sandpiper
- Summer Tanager: many and active, several down on the ground reminescent of
cardinals
- Bell's Vireo: at least 5 singing
- Ladder-b Woodpecker: many and active
- Crissal Thrasher: 2-3 pair
- White-w Dove: one heard at the residence
- Vermillion Flyctr: pair at orchard
- Lucy's Warbler: abundant
- Other warblers: BTGray, Orange-cr, Yellow, Yellow-rumped, Yellowthroat
- Sparrows: Black-th, Sage, Chipping (in numbers), Brewer's, Song,
White-crowned
Misses: Gr Roadrunner, Bullock's, Scott's & Hooded Oriole, Blue Grosbeak,
Black-t Gnatcatcher (too tired to walk the washes)
WELCOME SPRING - Looking in vain for Black-chinned & Rufous-crowned Sparrows
and Hooded Oriole (12:30-1:30)
UTAH HILL (Old Hwy 91 summit, near dish tower)
- Black-chinned Sparrow: 3-4 singing in the vicinity, and 1-2 at the next
left-hand turnoff down the hill
- Gray Vireo
Misses (extensive search): Rufous-crowned Sparrow, Pinyon Jay
