Subject: UOS meeting - Records committee meeting
To: Utah Bird Records Committee <reccom at utahbirds.org>
greetings all,
a few days ago I sent a note to the committee about meeting at the UOS conference. The responses are as follows:
Yes, can attend: Dave, Eric, Kris, Lu
No, cannot attend: Colby, Rick
No response: Larry, Terry
Unclear: Milt
This means we may or may not have a quorum, as - as I understand it - Milt will probably be present but is not a voting member, nor am I.
I do not think there are any elections on the agenda, unless, we are to vote at this meeting on replacements for Terry and Rick. If I'm wrong about this gentlemen, please forgive me. I'm not trying to get rid of you before your terms end.
Items of business:
1. Kris's proposal about having comments made public. Kris, I'm sure you have formally proposed this but I cannot find it. Could you please help me with this?
2. Milt offered the following proposal in an e-mail on 8/25:
"Also, if I can propose a change to the bylaw, as the webmaster or maybe past secretary -- that may not be appropriate -- I'd like to propose that nominations for positions on the records committee be made without having to ask if the people are willing to serve and then have the secretary ask the "winners" in order of the ones who receive the most vote, so that the process will be more quick and efficient and also so that the secretary and others don't have to inform the nominees that don't make it that they were "rejected."
3. I propose that we discuss the by-law requiring the Records Committee to meet annually at the UOS meeting, Article III.H.1. I can see pros and cons to this requirement. I have no opinion, one way or the other, other than to say that if it's a by-law then it should either be adhered to or it should be changed or dropped. I don't believe we should have by-laws that we ignore.
If I've forgotten something or have incorrectly stated something, please, let me know. All comments are welcome, good, bad, or ugly.
Thanks,
Lu
