[reccom] Bylaws-change proposals

Greetings,

There are 3 proposed changes to the bylaws that are "on the table." I talked to Dennis about dealing with them and he suggested that I, as the webmaster and past secretary, could oversee the process (since I would be dealing with posting the voting form and tallying of the votes anyway) or that we could wait for the new secretary to be chosen before we deal with the proposals.

A discussion of what to do itself may take longer than it would take to conduct the actual process or select the new secretary, so I figure I'll ask for anyone who would rather wait for a new secretary before we begin the process to express that opinion quickly -- if there's anyone who would rather wait then I think we should wait.

I have a document almost ready with the three proposals and some comment on each and if I don't hear from anyone soon who would like to wait for a new secretary, then I'll send out a PDF file to initiate the process. (This isn't a deadline or anything. If anyone decides we should wait after that, we can still easily do that with no harm done, I think).

Here is a summary of the three proposals just to remind you of what we're talking about here:

Proposal by Rick Fridell to do away with "term limits"

Proposal by Kris Purdy to do away with the "first state records" criteria so all records are treated the same.

Proposal by David Wheeler to add an "accept--but record does not meet criteria to include on official list" category on the voting form so we keep track of good records of species that don't meet the "first-state criteria."

Best wishes to all,
Milt
