By the way, the Painted redstart reports seem to be limited not just to Zion NP, but to one small area of the park in recent years. I think it would be very premature to remove that species from the review list. It's not like we get that many reports of it in any one season.
My (limited) records show the following reports for the species in Utah (I do not know how many of these have been officially reviewed):
3-28 Apr 2003 * Zion NP, Washington Co. Kevin Shipp of IN reported one along Weeping Rock Trail on 4th. On 5th in trees near trailhead [BSho]. On the 28th it was 200-300 yds up the River Walk Trail.
3 Apr - 10 Sep 2005 * Zion NP, Washington Co. Once again along the Riverwalk Trail. Seen by [RWoo] and then many others. An adult was seen feeding a juvenile ca. Aug. Photos taken. Male still singing Sep 10th.
7 Apr - 13 May 2002 * Zion N.P., Washington Co. [PPis] saw an adult * singing at the Temple of the Sinawava area, right at the beginning of the Riverside Walk in the top of a medium-sized tree ~½ between the trail & river (there are seeps at start of Riverside Trail). Seen by many in the area after the 7th, including a sighting on the Gateway to the Narrows trail.
10 Apr - 9 May 2004 * Zion N.P., Washington Co. [DG] saw an adult * singing at the Temple of the Sinawava / Weeping Rock / Riverwalk Trail area (returned yet again this year). Seen by many.
22, 24, & 30 Apr 1966 * Zion NP. One seen on 22nd, 2 seen on 24th (one other heard),1 on 30th by [RW]. <UB1975> & <UB1985>
22 Apr - 5 May 2001 * Zion NP, Washington Co. [RDob], and many others, saw it in riparian woodland within ~1/4 mi down from the Temple of Sinawava parking area, including in a Douglas Fir, oft singing. Sometimes foraged in mixed spp flock.
26 Apr 1930 * Zion NP, Washington Co. [VT]. <UB1985>
28 Apr - 2 May 1975 * Zion NP, Washington Co. One reported in <UB1985>.
30 Apr - 21 May 2006 * Zion NP, Washington Co., along the Riverwalk Trail, again. On 7 May, pair nesting at a nest located on the canyon wall in a hanging garden along the trail (further upstream than in 2004). Seen by many.
22 May 1965 * Beaver Dam Wash, Washington Co., at Terry Ranch. [DJay]. <UB1985> and <UB1975>

Mark, I like your ideas. I would limit the review criteria to counties. In the
case of the painted redstart, it will likely expand into nearby areas (of only
local interest), but if it is found further away (another county), then this would
be important for review. I agree this could be easily implemented and we
could modify these on an annual basis if necessary.
Best wishes, Ron
