Greetings,
I think it would be good to publish more of the workings and outcomes of the committee in the UOS Journal. (Section "II.Purposes, A." of the bylaws says "Evaluate and publish reports of rare or unusual bird sighting from the state of Utah.") Right now, we're publishing the yearly committee report which Rick and I have been collaborating on, but I think there is much more we can do.
I think we ought to write article for the first state records (Ruby-throated Hummingbird and Glossy Ibis) as well as some of the interesting and important records like the Pacific Golden-Plover, Pileated Woodpecker, Tufted Duck and Mourning Warbler no matter what the outcomes might be. It would be nice to let the public in on some of the interesting discussions and ideas that the committee is dealing with in a form that is appropriate for the general public.
I'd like to ask for volunteers to write up articles on the Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Glossy Ibis and the Mourning Warbler record from Moab (those with completed reviews), and in the future for possible Pileated Woodpecker, Tufted Duck and Pacific Golden-Plover.
I'm sure there are other committee-related things that should be publish in the journal as well. If you have any ideas or desires to write about something, please let me know.
Thanks,
Milt
