[Birdtalk] Deseret Ranch May 25

I had another trip to Deseret Ranch on Monday, and, no, we weren't
able to find the Magnolia Warbler that we saw on Saturday. I also
looked for it yesterday with no luck, so it looks like it moved on.
I'll certainly post if I see it again (or anything else really good).

Monday's rain really softened up the roads on the ranch, so we were
very limited in where we could go, including not being able to access
either the Saleratus Ponds, Neponset Reservoir, the nesting sites for
Prairie Falcon and Ferruginous Hawk, or the south meadows to check for
Lark Buntings. However, we did have a great day of birding, and
managed 120 species in spite of the limitations. In two trips over the
Memorial Day weekend, we logged at least 146 species on the ranch,
with some seriously big misses, and no access to the high country
(still blocked by snow drifts). Some of the "good" birds we saw Monday
were BLUE-WINGED TEAL, GREATER SCAUP, DUSKY GROUSE (beautiful
displaying male), WESTERN SANDPIPER (late), STILT SANDPIPER (in
breeding plumage), both phalaropes, BLACK TERNS (first of the year for
the ranch), LEWIS'S WOODPECKER, and NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH.

  The full bird list follows.

Good birding!
