Tom,
Great find! Parley's Gulch has turned up a host of good birds over the years.
Ash-throated Flycatcher technically ranges into northern Utah, but its is seemingly unfindable for any counties around the Great Salt Lake.
I am not sure if the county has any modern records, but I would imagine there is some historical data. The southwest corner of the valley has the best habitat for supporting this species in the county. The juniper covered canyons with riparian bottoms would be ideal for this species, but this far in all the birding there I don't think one has yet turned up.
So kudos for the great find. I will have to sneak over this evening or tomorrow to see if this guy sticks around.
Cheers
Tim

There was an Ash-throated Flycatcher at Parley's around 7:30am this
morning. It was in a dead tree limb along the north edge of the creek
before flying down into cover. The rufous tail was very evident, and the
lighter throat and pale belly clinched the id.
Seems like a strange place to find this bird. I know they are mostly
found in the south and in more arid habitat. I've certainly never seen
one in Salt Lake County. Has anyone else?
Cheers,
Tom
