I saw one AMERICAN BITTERN and heard a second on the auto tour loop at Bear
River Migratory Bird Refuge in Box Elder County this morning around 9:00.
The first bird was on the north section of the loop, 1/2 mile west of the
second bridge you must cross in the series of two at the maintenance
buildings. He or she used the tall sedges lining the canals. After awhile,
the bird was creeping through the sedges heading to another spot and I heard
another bittern poonk-ah-loonking off to the southeast, but still west of
the maintenance area. "My" bittern eventually flew across the road again to
the north and landed out of sight in brown grass a long way off the road.

Bear River MBR is located west of I-15 exit 363.
