Went for a walk in the newly re-opened Matheson Preserve in Moab
(missed the grand re-opening by one day!)
Lots of Black-chinned Hummers everywhere, Black-headed Grosbeaks,
Lazuli Buntings, and Yellow-breasted Chat. Warblers included Yellow,
Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Gray, and Wilson's (which was a first in
Grand County for me). Also got a Hermit Thrush (maybe two) so they are
finally arriving!
Back in my yard I had an interesting morning. Along with the regulars,
we had a small flock of 8 Pine Siskins. This was somewhat surprising
to me, as I can't recall the Pine Siskins hanging around this late in
Logan last year... Do Pine Siskins stay at low elevation year-round in
this hot climate?
Good birding,
