Did the island thing and on the way in the shorebirds were disappointing. I
had a handful of Western Sandpipers, Willets, Avocets, Black-Necked Stilts
and White-faced Ibis. The Franklin Gulls were showing their pink hue and a
pair of Sandhill Cranes showed their deep red head feathers. The ranch
proved more interesting with Yellow, Yellow-rumped and Orange Crown
Warblers. In addition to what others reported, I saw a Western Wood Peewee
and Lincoln's Sparrow in the south east corner of the general ranch area.
On the causeway going out I added Marbled Godwits and had a larger flock of
peeps containing Western SP and Sanderlings. Also had a large flock too
far out to id the peeps, but it has some Black-bellied Plovers in it. I
also saw a single bird that I felt was a Whimbrel. The bill was a bit short
for a Curlew and there were no other birds around it for comparison and it
didn't stay around too long.
