I decided I should see the Painted Bunting since I had already added my 2 cents worth. So I headed over to Rose Park, and found some other birders on a Bunting sit in, couch included, in a gracious neighbors yard to the reported sighting. After only being there for about 10 minutes, The PAINTED BUNTING showed up and decided to give us a good long look, about 5 minutes feeding in the feeders both on the ground and then next to the window. see my best photo of it at http://www.flickr.com/photos/bryanto/3494585205/ What a beauty!! I could see no obvious were and tear on the feathers, in fact he was a stunningly healthy looking bird with well preened feathers. A bird recently caught from the wild, and put in a cage, should show significant signs of stress and/or malnutrition. Also if it had been in captivity for any length of time it should have at least lost some of it fear of people, by being feed by them, and this bird was very skittish and wild. That
combined with its timing with the arrival of our Lazuli Buntings make me lean toward a wild bird. Big thanks to Gilbet, the gracious neighbor that provided the Couch, and Pomera Fronce for first sighting the bird.
Good Birding
