Hi All,
We've been busy and not paying too much attention, but here's what we did
have time to notice.
A week ago we had the Western kingbird summer residents, a Cassin's finch,
one glimpsed hummingbird (black-chinned or Broad-tailed) show up, plus we
had a Turkey vulture circling the house (that makes you think), and also
circling Sandhill cranes. Mallards, Gadwall, and Great blue heron were on
the neighbor's pond below the house.
This week, we have returning mourning doves, one Cassin's finch, one
Bullocks oriole, one Lazuli bunting, and for the past two days, an Indigo
bunting. The Indigo bunting is about three weeks earlier this year than the
one that showed up last year. The one last year was around for only a
couple of days, so we'll see what happens this year. This morning the
neighbor's pond had a pair of male Mallards, a Common merganser pair and one
White-faced ibis. There are also some swallows, but I haven't had time to
really look at them yet.
Holdover/resident birds include Raven, magpie, black- and pale-lored White
crowned sparrows, Pine siskins (I think they have decided that they would
rather live in the desert with a feeder handy than in the pine forest
without one), American and Lesser goldfinches (Americans predominating)
Spotted towhee, Says phoebe, Another fast, sneaky flycatcher I will ID
eventually, Eurasian collared doves.
