I just (8:20 a.m.) saw a group of about 20 Cedar Waxwings in the East
Mill Creek area of Salt Lake County. They were in the trees outside our
house, with a bunch of Am. Robins. Several of the Waxwings were flying
from trees up to the eve of our roof, snatching something in the ivy
along the side of the house and flying back to the trees. Several of
the Waxwings also seemed to be either getting something in the snow or
the snow itself, as they had snow on their beaks. The Waxwings match
Sibleys picture of adult Cedar Waxwings, definitely not Bohemian
Waxwings, no rufous undertail coverts, no white tips on wing feathers.
They did have the yellow tail tips and rufous tips on wing feathers. A
helicopter flew overhead and the whole bunch of Waxwings and Robins flew
off.
