Hiked up by Little Dell Res last night.
There was minimal open water, but looks like there will be more soon.
Mallards and Common Goldeneyes in small numbers for now.
Also, a flock of Horned Larks on the shore (a first up there for me). One
probable American Pipit gave me a chase for a bit although my look was
somewhat inconclusive. A pair of Killdeer appear content to set up shop
there. Juncos and Housefinches in large numbers. A flicker or two. A Red
Tailed Hawk vocalizing prior to flight. A buffy washed smallish sparrow -
looked definitevely like a Lincoln's to me. Which brings up another question
for discussion - Sibley says Lincoln's in summer only but this is the 2nd
one I have seen in the last 2 weeks (or so I believe) - is this unusual or
like our friends the Lesser Goldfinches, do many Lincoln's actually stick it
out here for winter?
