My apologies for the delayed posting. Much to my delight I encountered a flock of about a dozen Red Crossbills on the University of Utah campus yesterday. In my many years are the U, this is the first time I've seen crossbills here. It was a thrill! They were in some large pine trees that line an east-west running sidewalk between Marriott Library and the pedestrian bridge, directly south of the new Tanner Humanities Center. They remained in that location for at least an hour, but were scattered by a very fast-moving small hawk--a Sharpie, I think, on the briefest of views. I didn't get a chance to check the trees today.

And I agree with Bruce Robinson's earlier post--birding is great (Hi, Bruce)!
