Cameron,

This is not exactly in the Salt Lake City area, but Beus Park in Ogden,
Weber County, hosts a breeding population due to the efforts of Wasatch
Audubon to establish the species there many years ago.

Here's some info on Beus, including directions:

You could also check Layton Commons in Layton, Davis County. It's further
south, of course. Layton Commons is a city park that contains a stretch of
Kayscreek and runs west of a collection of Layton City buildings including
the police department, city hall, schools, and Surf n' Swim. From exit 329,
drive north on Fort Lane through the stop light intersection at Main Street,
north through the stop light intersection at Gentile and turn left (west)
onto Wasatch Drive. Wasatch Drive is a loop road that services the park
areas and Layton City buildings. Park anywhere except the police car parking
spots (hee-hee) and walk west until you hit the paved path that runs along
Kayscreek. I've seen Wood Ducks there up and down the creek, along with an
oddball collection of other waterfowl.

  Subject: [Birdtalk] RFI: Wood Ducks

  Hi All,

I'm in the area for the next couple of weeks and was curious about
locating Wood Ducks in the SLC area. It seems they are at local parks to
some extend in the winter but are harder to find at this time of year. Is
there any reliable spot in the area to find Wood Ducks? Places with good
photographic potential would be preferred. A good spot to photograph flying
White Pelicans would be great as well. Thanks in advance for any help in
location these species.

  Cheers,

  Cameron Cox
