Hi Guys,
Grant Jense and I birded the west side of Utah Lake from Elberta to Mosida and the Chimney Rock Pass area this morning. Of special note was an impressive "Kettle" of Swainson's Hawks near the northwest end of Elberta. We counted 173 and we both knew there were more we couldn't see. They were mostly one year old birds and showed a multitude of color variations, from very white-beasted to almost entirely black. I think this was the largest group[Kettle] of SWH I've ever seen.
Best Utah County birds of the morning included: Burrowing Owl[4], Black-throated Sparrow[5], Northern Mockingbird[3], Sage Thrasher[8], Pinyon Jay[4], Common Nighthawk[3], and Ferruginous Hawk[1].
A Good Day!
Dennis
