So this may too the list of the strangest things I've ever encountered with birds. I just returned home in Sugarhouse and was reading the mail when I heard the distinctive chirping of what sounded like an Osprey outside. I went to the window and the sound grew louder over the house. I shook my head and then ran out the front door to see an Osprey circling over my house. Even in the dark the pattern of the large raptor stood out. The bird circled several time and continued circling heading east--continuing the raucous chirping/screeching the entire time.
So first, why was this bird in the city flying low over a neighborhood with no water? I have seen maybe 3 Osprey in the county and all were at lakes or ponds.
Second and more importantly what in thne heck was it doing out at night?!?!?!?! Migration is way over for these guys and they migrate during daylight!
And third why the raucous? This bird was calling like crazy.
I wonder if the crazy weather has something to do with it. Certainly the strangest thing I have seen at my house bird wise... Weird.
Good Birding
