[Birdtalk] Benjamin Slough and Lincoln Point, Utah Co. 7/29/09

I went out birding this morning. I was planning on heading straight to Benjamin Slough and Lincoln point but as I crossed the Spanish Fork river (just past the beginning of River Lane) I saw a large flock of Ibis in the cow pasture to the south.  I made a U-turn and parked by the bridge. I spent the next 2 1/2 hours there looking at Ibis. While scanning through the ibis I saw what looked like a Glossy and soon lost it in the crowd. It took me 40 minutes to relocate it. I got to watch it for a minute and then lost it again. I searched more but the flock started slowly moving out and when it was down to 200 birds and I couldn't see the glossy I headed for Benjamin Slough.

At Benjamin Slough the water has receded but there were still birds out there. Lots of gulls, herons and egrets on the far side and lots of Black-necked Stilts throughout the area.

There where swallows everywhere along the roads out to and at Lincoln Point. On the beach there were California, Ring-billed and Franklin's Gulls, some Caspian Terns, a couple Spotted Sandpipers, an Avocet and a single Snowy Plover.
 
On my way home I passed the field I saw the ibis in and the flock seemed to be returning but I had already spent more time than I had planned so I didn't stop.

I birded 30 minutes on the Lower Provo River Parkway before work yesterday. Walked around the oxbow. Best bird was a Gray Catbird.
