Visited Bear River MBR this morning after being prompted by all the reports
of visible and photogenic Virginia's Rail and Sora kids. As usual, I was
not disappointed. Birds, birds, birds! American Coot and Western
Grebe kids and babies were literally EVERYWHERE. Watched a huge armada
(~2,000!) of American White Pelicans on Unit 2 feeding ~8 am, roosting later
in day. On the northwest side (Unit 2C) of the refuge I saw 13-15 Marsh
Wrens dustbathing in the road; all in about 15-m of road. A few migrant
shorebirds (Marbled Godwit, Long-billed Dowitcher, both yellowlegs, Wilson's
Phalarope) were in Unit 3, on the east side of road. More migrant
shorebirds were at about 5 miles from the I-15 interchange on Co. 1082, the
road to the refuge, in a playa with water. Finally, I saw at least four
different SHORT-EARED OWLS on the refuge and along Co. 1082 this morning.

Checklists below. Good birding, Craig
