This past weekend I went up to the north slope of the Uintas and climbed on top of Mt.Baldy(not Bald Mountain near Mirror Lake) and saw a male WHITE-TAILED PTARMIGAN. See a photo at http://www.flickr.com/photos/bryanto/3737210322/  I have seen them here before and it is an relatively easy place to see them, just a 2 mile hike from the East Fork of Black's Fork trail head. Also near that trail head is a NORTHERN GOSHAWK nest, or at least I assume there is one near there because I had a Goshawk act very aggresive and take numberous dives at me. See photo at http://www.flickr.com/photos/bryanto/3736603907/ Other good birds around were RED CROSSBILLS, GRAY JAYS, CLARK'S NUTCRAKERS, AMERICAN PIPITS, and I may have heard a BOREAL OWL, but I am not sure it wasn't a Snipe. I still don't know a good way to tell the diference.
Good Birding
