Hi Everyone. Happy New Year!
I'm just back from the frozen north - land of redpolls and great gray owls (Minnesota). I have a couple of questions, as I'm totally out of touch with what's happening in the Utah bird world.
1. I'd LOVE to see the ruff - has anyone located it in the last day or two? I'm going to head down to Antelope Island either tomorrow afternoon or Monday. Any hints on best time of day to look or location would be appreciated. I've been monitoring the listserve, so I know where it WAS. Just wondering if it's still being seen.
2. We have visitors at Bear River today who are looking for bald eagles. There are a couple of birds that some folks saw on the auto tour this morning, but they're moving around. I called Rich at Farmington Bay and he said they have a "handful". I would imagine if they rotenone carp again after the waterfowl season ends, there will be more birds congregating there, feeding up before migration . Are there other places to send folks in the area?
3. Is there a wildlife photographer out there who would do a couple of photography workshops for me at Bear River in the coming months? And also, someone who might be interested in doing 2-3 bird I.D. workshops too. The Friends of Bear River Refuge would sponsor the classes, so we could charge a small fee, those funds going to the instructor(s). It won't make you a ton of money, but would defray costs a bit. And I'd bake you cookies...or caramel rolls...
4. I'm looking for folks who would be interested in hanging their framed artwork or photographs in our meeting rooms - for public viewing. Images normally hang anywhere from 2 to 6 months, depending on how much interest their is. Depending on size, there's space for anywhere from 20 to 40 images. If you're interested, please contact me at (435) 734-6436 or betsy_beneke at fws.gov .
THANKS!!!
Betsy Beneke
