I spent about three hours in Blacksmith Fork Canyon yesterday, fishing, birdwatching and taking pictures.

At the mouth of the canyon there was 4 Bald Eagles flying above the crags. At the impoundment there was 4 Common Golden eye, and 1 Hooded Merganser. At the elk viewing area there was 8 robins.
Other birds seen in my travels that day were: Red-tailed Hawk, Kestrel, Crow, Magpie, Junco, Robin, Mallard, Turkey, Canada Goose and House Sparrow. No home birds on this list.

My goodness, that 4 inches of snow and cold 4° temperature this morning sure brought the birds to the feeders: Flicker, Downey Woodpecker, Black-capped Chickadee, House Finch, Goldfinch, Pine Siskin, and House Sparrow. My guess is about 150 birds hitting my feeders.

Missing in action are the Red-winged Blackbirds that have been here almost every day.

Sorry, I still cannot report any grouse in Paradise.

Happy New Year!

Jim
