This week we have a first for our yard--and it became my first bird for 2009. Our daughter Alison noticed a very dark bird on the ground under our seed feeder behaving like a towhee and mixing with the House Finches, Juncos and Towhees. It proved to be a Fox Sparrow. We've not seen one before in our yard here in the Provo foothills and we usually don't see them in winter. It has come back several days in a row and always feeds on the ground scratching towhee-like at the snow for seeds that have fallen from the feeder onto our deck.
