[Birdtalk] tree sparrows

This morning I searched the spruce trees in the Park Meadows neighborhood
of Park City to see if I could find the crossbills to get some photos, but
had no luck.

It was really cold up here, so I decided to head for lower elevations and
went to Antelope Island in search of wrens at Ladyfinger Point. Once
again I struck out, but as luck would have it, a flock of American Tree
Sparrows cruised through while I was there. Nice year bird!

Also, the Varied Thrush was still at the ranch, and the two Long-tailed
Ducks were at the bridge near the island. I couldn't find a rail, but a
couple of Loggerhead Shrikes were hanging out along the road to the ranch.

I'll send my totals to the Great Backyard Bird Count, and will see if I
can find that Lewis' Woodpecker and Rusty Blackbird in Woodland tomorrow.
There should be a bunch of Wild Turkeys along the River Road in Midway,
too. That should help the Utah count a little bit.
