Salt Lake Audubon went to Antelope Island yesterday. We saw lots of
birds, but many more bugs.

The big mosquito-looking guys on the causeway were friendly. The little
tiny guys at Lady Finger Point and many other locations were not! If you
decide to go to the island in the near future, be sure to cover up and use
lots of repellent before you get there. My arms and neck are covered with
oozing red bumps today. I put repellent on when I realized the problem,
but it was too late. :-(

Birds of interest on the causeway: Black-bellied Plover, Perigrine Falcon
(about mile marker 5)

On the island: Rock Wren (Lady Finger Point), Burrowing Owl (in one of the
boxes along the road west of the visitor center), Barn Owl and Says Phoebe
(at the buffalo barn), Logerhead Shrike, Horned Lark, Sage Thrasher (on
the road to the ranch), Yellow-rumped and Orange-crowned Warbler, Cedar
Waxwing (at the ranch).

The good news is that they were spraying at the ranch, so there were no
bugs down there.
