Hi All,

It's O.K. if you groan, but I'm still going to share this sighting.

I've lived in Perry nearly 6.5 years and had never seen a California quail anywhere in Brigham City or Perry until this afternoon.  I was cleaning off my patio and planting some flowers and looked up to see a pair of quail walking along the top of our privacy fence.  I thought I was imagining it for a few seconds.  For someone who loves to feed birds, but generally has fairly un-exciting species in the yard, this was quite momentous for me.

I'll burst my own bubble by telling you that I KNOW the DWR has been releasing quail up this way recently, so I'm sure the appearance of these birds in my yard is a result of this effort.  But...it was still really fun to see them!  Thank you DWR!

Have also been buzzed a couple of times today by a broad-tailed hummingbird (I was wearing my Magnum PI shirt), so I'm cooking nectar as I write this.  Cedar waxwings are everywhere in the neighborhood, ruby-crowned kinglets are fly-catching in the neighbors trees and a pair of lesser goldfinches have been visiting my feeders regularly the last few days.

This winter I had more pine siskins and both species of goldfinches than I have since moving to Utah.  It's been fun.  I don't mind spending the extra money on nijer.

Happy Spring!
