I, too, enjoy the "musings" and stories about birds. 
To me, the sighting reports emphasize what (and where) birds are.
The musings, stories, and commentary emphasize WHY birds are.
Your stories and anecdotes enlarge my pleasure and deepen my understanding of birds.
Please, keep sharing.
After reading Milt's message and the webpages he linked to, it seems that bird musings are what the "birdtalk" list is all about. I think having two separate lists is a great way to best meet a variety of birders' needs.
