The US Fish and Wildlife Service, Utah DWR and our lab are initiating a Colonial Waterbird Survey for the entire state of Utah. In fact this effort will be undertaken throughout all of the western US.

The objectives of this survey are 1) develop a breeding colony atlas for use in conservation planning and 2) determine the number of breeders for the state of Utah.
We would like your help in two ways. First, we need your assistance in identifying known locations of breeding colonies throughout the entire state. We know where many are located (e.g. at Great Salt Lake) but need your assistance to make sure we get complete coverage. Please send me locations (off the listserv) of breeding colonies you know about. This will be added to our database. This information will be critical to the success of this project!
Spp of interest include
Eared, Western and Clark's Grebe
Am White Pelican
Double Crested Cormorant
Great Blue and Black-crowned Night Heron
Snowy, Cattle and Great Egret
White-faced Ibis
Franklin's and California Gull
Caspian, Foresters and Black Terns
Second, we would welcome volunteers interested in participating in the survey. The survey will run from June 1 - June 30.
Thanks in advance for your help!!!
