I saw a 1st-winter Harris's sparrow this afternoon (Sat, 4/11/09) on
the Jordan River, just S of the car park at 3119 S, 1100 W. It was
in a flock of white-crowned sparrows.
Sibley's painting of this bird is excellent for plumage, but terrible
for the color of the bill. According to Sibley, the bill is flesh pink.
But it is really more orange than pink, not that different from the
bills of the nearby white-crowns. The bill color is much better in
National Geographic, Rising, and Kaufman.
